During Delivery
Make sure your newborn receives the first dose of the HBV vaccine and hepatitis B immunoglobulin (HBIG) shot within 12 hours of birth.
When you arrive at the birthing hospital, inform the hospital nurses and staff that you are HBsAg+ positive so that they can ensure that your infant is vaccinated in a timely manner.
Cesarean Section
Cesarean sections have not been found to prevent HBV transmission from mother to child. Hepatitis B vaccination along with the HBIG shot is the best way to protect your newborn against HBV infection.
